Sometimes making Valentine's Day special for her involves doing the unexpected. Turn a simple dinner at your apartment into something elegant by giving her a great dessert that's easy to prepare, inexpensive, and relatively low in calories.
Making Chocolate Covered Strawberries and Champagne for Her
If you aren't allergic to your kitchen, you can give your girlfriend or wife a wonderful little Valentine's pampering. Start with a strawberry. Find some fresh strawberries that look beautiful, and pick up a block of dark or white chocolate chips, whichever she prefers, and a bottle of Champagne.
Make sure your strawberries have their caps on, and are firm to the touch, without bruises or white spots. When desert rolls around, melt the chocolate in a bowl that has been suspended in a pot of boiling water. You don't need a double boiler for this, but use some care not to slosh water into the chocolate.
The chocolate should melt in five to ten minutes, and can be used for dipping thereafter. You can pour her a glass of celebratory Champagne, and finish it off with a luscious strawberry that has been dipped in chocolate halfway up the sides. Insert a toothpick in the top of the strawberry to give yourself something to hold on to while dipping it, and insert the toothpick in a piece of Styrofoam, an orange, apple, or other soft surface after dipping to give it some time to set up before serving.
The presentation is eye popping (remove the toothpick), the dessert is not very caloric, it's easy to prepare, and you come off looking like a prince.
If she doesn't like Champagne, make her favorite drink and serve it in a special glass.
